F. MURRAY ABRAHAM, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1939, is a very popular actor in Italy, thanks to his roles in two of the most popular Italian television series of the past few years: “The Betrothed” by Salvatore Nocita and “Marco Polo”. An actor with a wide variety of personas (although he is mainly used in “bad guy” roles), he gained international fame when he won an Oscar for playing the mean and envious Salieri in “Amadeus”. Another negative role he played was as the enemy of captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) in “Start Trek – Insurrection”, that made him popular among younger audiences. Other memorable parts include playing a Bolivian drug lord in “Scarface”, with Al Pacino, the hideous and implacable inquisitor in “The Name of the Rose”, and the psychopathic district attorney in “The Bonfire of Vanities”. Before “Carnera”, he had already appeared in a Renzo Martinelli movie in 2003, interpreting “the Entity” in “Five Moons Plaza”, the controversial movie about the kidnapping and killing of Italian politician Aldo Moro.
